Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has announced recruitment for 9 positions at ECHS Polyclinic Koraput, Odisha, for the year 2026. This recruitment drive seeks to fill various positions including Safaiwala (Sanitation Worker), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Pharmacist, Laboratory Assistant, and other essential support staff required for the smooth functioning of the polyclinic facility. ECHS is a comprehensive healthcare scheme for ex-servicemen and their dependents, providing quality medical care through a network of polyclinics across India. ECHS polyclinics serve as the first point of contact for beneficiaries, providing outpatient services, diagnostics, pharmacy services, and referrals to empanelled hospitals for specialized treatment. The ECHS Polyclinic Koraput serves the veteran community and their families in the Koraput region of Odisha. The facility provides comprehensive primary healthcare services including general medical consultations, routine diagnostic tests, medicine dispensation, health check-ups, and administrative support for accessing specialized treatment at higher medical facilities. This recruitment encompasses various positions critical to polyclinic operations. The Data Entry Operator position is vital for managing patient records, maintaining databases, generating reports, handling documentation, and ensuring smooth information flow. Pharmacists are responsible for dispensing medications as per prescriptions, maintaining pharmacy inventory, ensuring proper storage of medicines, providing medication counseling to patients, and maintaining pharmacy records. This role requires attention to detail, knowledge of pharmaceutical products, and good communication skills to interact with elderly beneficiaries. Laboratory Assistant positions are crucial for conducting routine diagnostic tests, collecting samples, operating laboratory equipment, maintaining test records, and ensuring quality control in laboratory operations. Candidates with diploma qualifications in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or related fields are eligible. Laboratory assistants work under the supervision of medical officers and pathologists to provide accurate diagnostic services. The Safaiwala (Sanitation Worker) position, though appearing basic, is extremely important for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in the medical facility. This role involves cleaning consulting rooms, laboratories, waiting areas, toilets, and other areas of the polyclinic, proper disposal of biomedical waste, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring a clean environment for patients and staff. While educational requirements are minimal, candidates must be physically fit and committed to maintaining high cleanliness standards. Additional positions include support staff such as Attendants, Helpers, and other roles that assist in daily operations of the polyclinic. These positions ensure smooth patient flow, assistance to medical staff, and overall facility management. The salary structure varies from Rs. 21,800 to Rs. 95,000 per month depending on the position and qualification. Higher positions like Pharmacist and Laboratory positions offer better remuneration, while support staff positions have lower but reasonable salaries considering the job requirements and responsibilities. An important aspect of ECHS recruitment is the preference given to ex-servicemen and their dependents, reflecting the organization's commitment to providing employment opportunities to the defense community. While civilians are also eligible, ex-servicemen receive age relaxations and preferential consideration in selection. The age limit varies by position, generally ranging from 53 to 65 years, which is notably higher than most government recruitments. This reflects ECHS's policy of employing retired defense personnel and mature candidates who bring experience, discipline, and dedication to their roles. Age relaxations are provided as per government norms for reserved categories. All positions are contractual in nature with a tenure of 1 year for ex-servicemen and 11 months for civilian candidates.
