Mumbai Port Authority has invited applications for 1 Marine Engineer post in the Class I cadre on regular basis for its Marine Department at Mumbai, Maharashtra. This is a high–responsibility officer level post in pay scale ₹70,000–2,00,000 with Industrial DA, cafeteria allowance and other admissible benefits as per Mumbai Port Authority rules.

The vacancy is earmarked for ST category and is open to experienced Marine Engineering professionals who hold a valid Class I Certificate of Competency and have sailed as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on foreign going ships. This recruitment is an excellent opportunity for officers from merchant navy/ shipping background who wish to shift to a shore–based government sector role while continuing in marine technical profile.

Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is one of India’s oldest and largest major ports under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It handles a wide variety of cargo, passenger services and marine operations along the western coast of India. The Marine Engineer will be part of the Marine Engineering set–up responsible for safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of tugs, launches, dredgers and other port craft deployed for port and shipping operations within Mumbai harbour limits.

Pay Scale: ₹70,000 – 2,00,000 (IDA pattern) with cafeteria allowance @ 35% of basic pay and annual increments as per MbPA RSP Regulations 2010.

At present level of pay, total monthly gross remuneration at minimum of the scale is around ₹1,51,000/- excluding work related perks and allowances.

Age Limit

  • Maximum Age: Not more than 40 years as on 01 January 2026.
  • For ST candidates, standard age relaxation of 5 years is applicable as per Government of India/Major Port norms.
  • As per Regulation 9 of MbPT Employees (RSP) Regulations, 2010, for existing employees of any Major Port, upper age limit can be up to 55 years, subject to other conditions.

Age will be calculated with reference to date of birth recorded in Matriculation/SSC or equivalent certificate. No relaxation beyond prescribed limits will be allowed except as notified.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must strictly meet the essential educational and experience requirements as per the official advertisement.

Essential Educational Qualification:

  • MOT 1st Class Motor Certificate of Competency, OR
  • Marine Engineer Officer Class I Certificate of Competency (Motor) issued under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year post–qualification experience as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on board a foreign going ship.
  • Experience must be after obtaining Class I Certificate of Competency.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with port tugs/crafts, harbour vessels and shore–based marine maintenance.
  • Knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS, MARPOL and statutory survey requirements.
  • Ability to supervise teams, coordinate with multiple departments and prepare technical reports.

Other General Requirements:

  • Citizenship of India.
  • Good physical and mental health for duty on board port vessels and at marine facilities.
  • No adverse / disciplinary record in present or past employment.
  • For candidates already working in Central/State Govt/PSU/Major Port – application through proper channel with Vigilance/Disciplinary clearance.
🎯 Selection Process

Selection Process

The selection methodology for Marine Engineer in Mumbai Port Authority generally includes the following stages:

  • Shortlisting of Applications: Based on essential qualification, sailing experience and profile, applications will be screened. Incomplete or ineligible applications will be rejected.
  • Written Examination and/or Personal Interview: As per the advertisement, selection will be made through a competitive written examination and/or personal interview conducted by the Port Authority.
  • Document Verification: Original certificates for age, qualification, CoC, experience and caste (for ST) must be produced at the time of interview/selection.
  • Medical Examination: Final selection will be subject to being found medically fit as per standards prescribed for Marine Engineers in port service.

  • Step 1 – Download Notification & Form: Visit https://mumbaiport.gov.in, open the “Careers / Advertisements” section and download the Marine Engineer recruitment advertisement along with Annexure–A application form.
  • Step 2 – Fill Application Form: Neatly fill all details in capital letters – personal data, contact details, educational qualifications, certificate of competency details, sailing experience (with vessel name, type, GRT, rank, duration) and present employment information.
  • Step 3 – Attach Documents: Enclose self–attested copies of:
